A Simple Guide to Feeling Happier and More Fulfilled

Have you ever felt like life is off balance, but you’re unsure where to start fixing it? Maybe some areas of your life are going okay, but others feel completely stuck. It can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what’s bothering you.

I’ve been there. Several years ago I bumped into the Australian Unity Wellbeing Test, which measures your satisfaction in different areas of life — like health, relationships, and future security. My result? 35. Out of 100. At the time, I was struggling. We just moved to a new country, far from our family and friends. I recently gave birth, and my days felt like Groundhog Day. I felt isolated, unhappy, and unsure of how to make things better.

But that test opened my eyes. It didn’t judge me, it was about showing me where I was unhappy. It was like a roadmap for my growth zones — the areas I could focus on to feel better and live happier.

That test reminds me of the Wheel of Life, another tool for figuring out where you are right now and guiding you into your perfect future. Have you heard of it? It’s a circle divided into sections, each representing one key area: Finances, Career/Business, Health, Relationships, Personal Growth, Fun & Recreation, Environment, Spirituality, and Community. You rate your satisfaction in each section, then connect the dots to create your “wheel”. Do you know why I love these tests? Both the Wheel of Life and the Australian Unity test don’t tell you how to live your life — but ask how satisfied you feel in the most important areas. That’s the power: they guide you to focus on what matters most to you now. Scored low in Fun? Maybe everyone else thinks you’re the most party person in the world. But if you feel low there — you know what to focus on in the near future.

You are the boss of your life.

If you were to pause and think about your life right now, what areas feel balanced? Which ones feel stuck or neglected?

I’ve learned that even small changes like shifting your perspective can make a big difference.

For me, one unexpected change came through photography. When I started doing self-portraits, it was just for practice. I wanted to learn more about lighting and posing, but I quickly realized that the way I saw myself in those photos wasn’t how I wanted to feel. I looked stiff, guarded — I wasn’t really me.

So, I started to experiment. I treated the camera like my best friend, someone I could open up to completely. Sometimes I imagined I was flirting with it, being cute or playful. Other times, I let myself be vulnerable, capturing emotions I didn’t even know I had. The result? Photos that felt real. I started to see myself in a new way — relaxed, confident, and beautiful.

Photography became a way for me to connect with myself. Through This Is Me sessions, I learn to embrace my imperfections. On the days when I need a boost, I do Legacy Portraits — I dress up, do my hair and makeup, and create portraits that look like they are a magazine cover. Those sessions remind me of how gorgeous I can be. Both experiences teach me something important: I’m worthy of being celebrated both dressed up and as I am.

Do you have a list of your Happy Moments? Let’s create some!

I’d love to help you feel more like yourself. Whether it’s taking a test (click the link above and try it, then read their comments regarding how you answered), creating a Wheel of Life, or even stepping in front of a camera, the first step to making things go great is understanding where you’re at. Are you ready to come into the spotlight?

When you can see what’s holding you back or what you really need to focus on, you can start making changes that matter. Maybe it’s reaching out to a friend, finding time for a hobby, or simply looking at yourself in a new way and capturing it.
